Freddie Spencer showed why he still has a massive following 25 years after he last won a GP championship. At this year's Festival of 1000 Bikes he spent hours with fans in blistering heat before giving a glimpse of the riding talent that added the 'Fast' prefix to Freddie. Carl Fogarty has spoken to the VMCC about his appearance at next week’s Festival of 1000 Bikes. Foggy said “I was at the Festival of 1000 Bikes last year and really enjoyed the whole occasion. It was the first time for a long time since I had ridden a bike in anger so hopefully I can knock a few seconds off my lap time this year! It will certainly take my mind off England not reaching the World Cup final that night!”

Jun 1, 2010  Footman James proudly backing the VMCC Festival of 1,000 Bikes
Widely renowned for featuring Europe’s best line up of famous motorcycles and star riders, from legendary veterans through to the big names of the super bike arena, the VMCC Festival of 1,000 Bikes is the ultimate event for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Among those thrilling the crowds this year will be Freddie Spencer and Carl Fogarty MBE, who, true to the ethos of the VMCC, will be firing their machines into action and demonstrating what they love doing most – riding them.

Paul Matthews, managing director of show sponsor Footman James said this is why the Festival of 1,000 Bikes is so special.

“Not only does the festival bring together one of the biggest and most diverse ranges of beautiful machines of any historic motorcycle event in Europe, but it celebrates the pleasure and enjoyment gained from taking them out on the road where they belong.

“Adding to this exhilarating mix is a star line-up of some of the most famous names from the historic motorcycle world – and who better to highlight what these unique machines can really do.”

He added: “Footman James has supported the festival for many years, seeing it grow into the record-breaking event that it is today, and we are thoroughly looking forward to being at the heart of the action once again in 2010.”

The Footman James team will be available throughout the weekend to talk to visitors about the discounted rates that VMCC members can enjoy on their classic motorcycle insurance, as well as the reductions they can receive on modern motorcycle, car insurance and home and contents insurance.

They will also discuss the different insurance options on offer, including limited mileage, laid-up, agreed value and multibike cover.

Apr 14, 2010  VMCC FESTIVAL OF 1000 BIKES 2010-FOUR DECADES OF WORLD CHAMPIONS!!  VMCC

The VMCC is proud to announce some very exciting news concerning this year’s event which will be held at Mallory Park on 9/10/11 July 2010.

None other than 250cc/500cc GP World Champion “Fast” Freddie Spencer will be riding a Honda NS500 in our “Past Masters” track feature on Sunday 11th July. “Fast Freddie” will be returning to ride at Mallory Park for the first time in almost 30 years when he was a member of the American “Transatlantic Challenge” team. Not only this, but we also have Four Decades of World Champions as Freddie will be joined on track by (amongst others) Jim Redman MBE, Phil Read MBE & 4 times World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty MBE. “Foggy” is returning to the event for the second year in a row following his first “knee down” track outing in 10 years at the 2009 event!

Anyone who has attended in previous years will have seen the massive crowds that swamp Mallory Park on “Past Masters Sunday”. Indeed the event is so popular with riders wishing to enter their own machines in the weekends track sessions creating an extra paddock for road going machines has been essential. Over the past few years the event has become synonymous with the sheer variety of motorcycle sport on offer as well as the fact that everyone from track participants to spectators can mix with all the star riders in the paddock making this the friendliest event of its type in the World.

Below are just some of the weekend’s attractions-

Track sessions in which the public can ride their own road or race machine take place over both days of the event. Machines will be grouped according to type with road machine sessions on Saturday 10th and race machine sessions on Sunday 11th July. With prices starting at just £32.00 for the first track session (£22.00 each for further sessions) this event is incredible value as booking just one track session allows 2 people into the whole weekend’s event & what a lot there is to see!

PAST MASTERS TRACK SPECTACULAR- SUNDAY 11TH JULY.

Fast Freddie Spencer returns to Mallory Park to join four decades of World Champions in our Past Masters Track Spectacular. Also in association with the National Motorcycle Museum four of the original Norton Rotary Race Machines will be out on track with their original star riders aboard in what promises to be a truly historic event! In conjunction with Phil Morris Racing & back again for 2010 will be no less than 25 Honda RC163 machines appearing together, something that has to be heard to be believed! New to this year’s “Past Masters” will be a special feature showcasing machines from the famous Brookland’s circuit.  Provided courtesy of the Brookland’s museum volunteer team machines featured will include record holders such as the Brough Superior “Works Scrapper”.

Mar 3, 2010  Brooklands Track session at the Festival of 1000 Bikes 2010  Brooklands Museum Motorcycle Volunteer Team

As part of the “Past Masters” feature on Sunday 11th July there will be a Brooklands Track Session for racing bikes that actually competed at Brooklands or that set records there.  The Brooklands Museum Volunteer Team aim is to "field" about 25 machines & these may be augmented by those with record-breakers that now live at Brooklands.

Here’s a taster of just a few of the machines entered-

Malcolm Brown has entered the ex-works Douglas that his Father, Graeme, raced at Brooklands. This is a very original bike and has not been restored but it is still quick.  The Museum will enter the "Boy" Tubb Lacey replica Grindlay Peerless (Gold Star winning bike).  There will be an AJS "Big Port" that sprinted at Brooklands. The ex-Tommy Meeton Francis Barnett record-breaker will turn out (although the handling is "interesting"!) Peter Lancaster will ride his Brough Superior "Works Scrapper" record-breaker.  Steve Allen will ride his Rex Acme and there is a possiblity that Mike Wicksteed may ride the supercharged Wicksteed Triumph!

Feb 17, 2010  MALLORY PARK UPGRADES FOR 2010   SOURCE MALLORY PARK

MALLORY PARK has completed a £50,000 earth-works programme to improve safety and sight lines for competitors and at the same time improved viewing facilities for spectators in a winter make-over.

Track riders and racers will benefit from the barrier on the left of the Lake Esses being moved back by between four and 15-metres. It means that as you enter the Esses you now have a clear line of sight right up to the Hairpin so are much more aware of what is happening in front of you.

"When taken in conjunction with the removal of the Oak Trees on the right-hand side of the Esses last winter, the view from a riders perspective is now much more open with nice level run off on both sides of the track." said Mallory Park General Manager John Ward.
At the same time the run-off at the Hairpin has been doubled from 12 to 24-metres. In order to increase the run off the maintainence yard behind this area had to be infilled with 1,200 tonnes of earth.

Ward said: “The Hairpin run-off is now doubled and that will be welcomed by all track users as a very sensible safety precaution. Our safety record at the circuit is second to none and in recent years we have been recorded as amongst the safest circuits that the British Superbike Championship visits. That doesn’t stop us making the improvements and listening to riders in order to bring the facility up to the highest standards.”

Further works are planned for winter 2010/11 with the famous Gerards corner having the run off moved back by a further 25metres and the circuit crossing being moved to a more convenient location opposite the medical centre. It follows other improvements since 2007 that includes a safety run-off within the Bus Stop Chicane, removal of the two oak trees at the Lake Esses, levelling and increasing the run-off down the Stebbe Straight, replacing and moving back the safety barriers through the Edwinas section and moving back the safety barriers on the left hand side of the start-finish straight.

Spectators haven’t been forgotten either with new banking being built at the Esses to increase viewing opportunities. The first spectator banking to be located at Gerards is currently under construction and will give visitors to the track in 2010 another vantage point to watch the action. New spectator fencing has been placed all round the circuit and the facilities and buildings refurbished and refreshed. Even the parking plans for visitors have been worked on to ensure that visitors have a safe and quick entrance and exit in 2010.

“We have invested a significant amount of money in improving Mallory Park and will continue to do so,” enthused Ward. “It has been hard work through the recent cold and snowy weather but the circuit staff have been fantastic and I am sure whether a rider or spectator, visitors in 2010 will notice a big improvement.”

Nov 27, 2009  VMCC FESTIVAL OF 1000 BIKES 2010 DATES ANNOUNCED.  VMCC HQ
THE 2010 VMCC FESTIVAL OF 1000 BIKES, THE UK TRACK WEEKEND!

After another record breaking event in 2009 the VMCCs Festival of 1000 Bikes returns to Mallory Park on the weekend of 09th/10th/11th July 2010.

With the support of Footman James Insurance Brokers, Bonhams Auctioneers, Mortons Motorcycle Media, The National Motorcycle Museum & ERIKS, the 2010 event promises to be another weekend to remember.

As in previous years the event gives enthusiasts the opportunity to ride their own machines in multiple track sessions over the weekend. On the Saturday of the event we cater for all classes of road machines from the earliest Veterans (discounted entry fee available for pre 1925 machines) through to machines of the super bike era which reflect the wide range of interests within the VMCC. With lesser noise restrictions Sunday is the day for riders to display their racing machinery in special track sessions running throughout the day.

It is now recognised that this unique event provides the best line up of “Past Masters” and famous machines assembled every year in the UK. Previously this has included many unique happenings such as 4 times World Super Bike Champion Carl Fogarty MBE getting his “knee down” on a track for the first time in 10 years at our 2009 event!

The 2010 event will be no exception as the continued assistance of Simon Hartland of the National Motorcycle Museum will help provide more unique machines and star riders than any other historic two wheeled event held in Europe. In 2010 this will include a very special track appearance by an overseas Multi World Champion who has not appeared on a racing machine at a UK track for many years! Watch this space!
