TRACK SESSIONS

Track sessions in which YOU can ride your own solo or race outfit will take place over both days of the event. Machines will be grouped according to type with Road Machine Sessions on Saturday 10th and Race Machine session on Sunday 11th July only.

With prices starting at just £32.00 for the first track session (£22.00 each for further sessions) this event is incredible value as that allows both you and a friend into the whole weekend’s event.

THE VINTAGE MOTOR CYCLE CLUB FESTIVAL OF 1000 BIKES TRIALS

Saturday 10/07/2010-11.00am-3.30pm (See event map for location).

The Taverners have been putting on Vintage Trials in the Leicestershire area for many years from the time when Vintage (as in Pre 1930 machines including “flat tankers”) were used. More “modern” machines became eligible as the VMCC’s 25 year eligibility rule moved on with a colonial class for (virtually) Road Machines which ran for a time alongside the Trials Bikes on a modified course. When the 25 year rule reached 1957 it was decided to keep this as a cut off date for eligibility, with machines up to 1965 invited as “guests”. We aim to try to encourage the continued use of the girder/rigid and tele/rigid with lesser entry fees and courses not so demanding as most Trials.

We run a winter series October to April of 7 Trials at various venues around Leicestershire many on old disused railway sites. These courses feature not many rocks or too many death defying sections with the aim of encouraging older machines to be brought along. We have entries from riders past three score years and ten, alongside youngsters from 10 years upward. It’s often a family affair with many Fathers, Sons & Granddads taking part plus our very good young lady rider. Machinery taking part is very varied from 600cc Levis to all sorts of smelly Two Strokes, (hopefully they will graduate to a nice four stroke), with AJ’S, Bullets, Beezers, Fanny Barnetts, Trophy’s, James’, Ariels etc.

In June every year we also run a non competitive trial for any age of machine to encourage anybody to “come and have a go”.

Make sure you come and see us making the best use of our “mud pluggers” on the Saturday of the Festival weekend in the wooded area adjacent to “Gerards” Bend.

GRASS TRACK

Sunday 11/07/2010 - 10.30am-3.30pm (See event map for location).

The Grasstrack will be held on Sunday 11th July 2010 on the same course as in 2009 which is situated just outside the pay-line near the “Lodge Gates D” (see map for details).

Grasstrack - the “Grass Roots” of motorcycle sport, it’s not just a pun, many clubmen and international stars alike started with Grasstrack as did some of our top venues, Mallory Park for example owes much to a Grasstrack heritage. The sport caters for all, a real mixing pot of characters and personalities, young, not so young, short, tall, male or female. Visit the Grasstrack and Speedway Sections Demonstration Grasstrack situated near “Lodge Gate D”, experience for yourself the unique atmosphere, the smell of Castrol ‘R’ mixed with methanol and freshly cut grass collectively known as ‘R’omatherapy, combine this with close exiting racing and the sound of an on song Rudge or JAP, soon you realise Grasstrack has something to make all your senses tingle. This pleasant cocktail can however drive some to want to have a go at Grasstrack themselves, you have been warned!

SPRINT DEMONSTRATION

Sunday 11/07/2010 - 12.40pm & 5.15pm (On the Start/Finish straight).

The Sprint Section brings you another great line-up of Machines from the world of Straight-Line Motorcycling to give you a taste of our Sport. Amongst them, will be some of the most Iconic Sprinters in History that took many Worlds’ and National Records in their heyday.

We are delighted that this year will see the return of Maurice Brierleys’ “Methamon” World Record Breaking Sidecar to the Track. After 45 years in hibernation, the Supercharged Vincent has been sympathetically rebuilt by members of the Sprint Section.

Also back by popular demand is another favourite, John Hobbs and the “Hobbit”. Add to that the Trike of Graham Sykes with a 4 Ltr “V8” and the 2010 Top Fuel Puma “Purple Princess” of Steve Carey and this year’s Exhibition promises to be one of the best yet!

Supporting the Star machines will be an equally mouth-watering line-up of Riders and Machines that will get the adrenaline flowing. Don’t forget to visit our Marquee in the Race Paddock to get a close-up view of all the machines.

HISTORIC SPRINT MACHINE DISPLAY (Saturday & Sunday)

For 2010 we will be having a large marquee where many of the machines appearing in the demonstration will be on display as well as some historic machines from the past to represent the high points in Sprinting History. Once again our thanks go to the many owners of these rare machines for allowing you such close contact with the exhibits.

The display Marquee will be located in the Race Paddock & particular thanks go to the National Motorcycle Museum who have given us such tremendous support during the last two years at Mallory with the loan of exhibits.

Riders in the sprint demo are mounted on a cross section of machines from the Vintage era, through to Modern Rocket Ships. Few remain as the maker intended, having been either much modified or tuned (usually both!) They have been selected to represent a typical Sprint Meeting that could have taken place on any Sunday during the last 60 years and to give an idea of the sort of machines that form the backbone of Sprinting.

Older/Smaller machines including the special Brooklands feature showcasing 20 machines used in competition at Brooklands in the years before the War.

Honda RC163 or replica four cylinder machines (plus some other 2 & 4 stroke race machines of the same period including Jim Redman MBE) also featuring Niall Mackenzie & Donnie McLeod on the works Armstrongs. What an aural treat - not to be missed!

Norton Rotary race machines. Genuine ex works Rotary Race bikes piloted by their original works riders. One of the most popular feature’s of the event courtesy of the National Motorcycle Museum and with the technical assistance of Mr Brian Crighton.

Carl Fogarty. Four times World Superbike Champ Carl Fogarty on track riding a replica of his 1995 Championship Ducati

Freddie Spencer. Returning to ride at Mallory Park for the first time in nearly 30 years multiple world champ fast Freddie will be aboard a works Honda NS500
SESSION 6 ON TRACK 2.15PM
The big/faster stuff! Freddie & Foggy will be joined on track by the likes of Mick Grant, Sammy Miller OBE, Niall Mackenzie, Stan Woods, Nick Jefferies and Maria Costello MBE amongst many others.

FAST FREDDIE BACK AT MALLORY PARK!
The VMCC is proud to announce some very exciting news concerning this year’s event which will be held at Mallory Park on 9/10/11 July 2010.

None other than Multiple GP World Champion “Fast” Freddie Spencer will be riding a works Honda NS500 in our “Past Masters” track feature on Sunday 11th July. Also courtesy of the National Motorcycle Museum four of the Original Norton Rotary Race Machines will be out on track with the original riders on board including Steve Spray & Trevor Nation..

Fast Freddie will join with a whole host of famous names on track for the Stars Parade which forms the highlight of the Festival & offers the chance to see the greatest line up of Past Masters in Europe.

With nearly 50 one make Clubs in displaying in the Avenue of Clubs in 2009 this was be a big hit with visitors to the event. Again in 2010 each Club will be displaying their Members machines as well as many of those same Members riding in the Track parades.

Auto jumble
There will be a large Auto jumble held on both days of the 2010 event which will again be situated in the race paddock.

Trade Stands
The Trade Village will be located within the race paddock and will also feature stands from all the events partners including Footman James Insurance Brokers Ltd, Bonhams Auctioneers, Mortons Media, The National Motorcycle Museum & Norton Motorcycles.

Nothing upstages the Festival

It would be easy to get the impression that our European cousins invented classic track based events, with the likes of Coupes Moto Legend, but you would be wrong.
The original Festival of 1000 Bikes, which was launched here at Mallory Park, was the trend setter when it came to putting on a great weekend for owners and enthusiasts of classic and vintage machinery.
When the VMCC called time on the Festival of 1000 Bikes, after a last great hoorah at Brands Hatch, I along with thousands of other enthusiasts, were left with a big hole in their classic year.
But as we now know the Festival is back, and at its spiritual home, and is bigger and better than ever.
When I was asked if Classic Racer would sponsor the Legends Stage at this years event I had no hesitation in saying yes. In each issue of Classic Racer we feature legends from the great years of the sport and at the Festival you get to see the same guys on track, and on the Classic Racer stage hear their stories of heroic races run.

ENTERTAINMENT MARQUEE TIMETABLE OF EVENTS

The VMCC entertainment marquee is truly the centre of the off track action during both evenings of the event. With 2 real ales from Tunnel Brewery (including the specially brewed VMCC FESTIVAL ALE!) to choose from the bar will be providing some high class refreshment over the 3 days of the event. Ales and Ciders include Tunnel Trade Winds Pale Ale (4.6 abv) Tunnel 1000 Bikes Special Ale (4.7 abv), John Smith’s Smooth, Carling, Guinness, Stowfords Press Cider plus a wide variety of bottled beverages. Don’t forget the marquee makes for a great place for viewing the track action on Stebbe straight with the bar opening at 11.00am on Sat & Sunday

On the evening of both Friday 9th & Saturday 10th there will be a live band as well as the brilliant George Formby lookalike (& his ukulele!) providing entertainment on The Classic Racer Magazine Stage within in the VMCC “Big Top” marquee until late in the evening. Also in this area on Saturday evening there will be a “Stars on Stage” feature with interviews with some of the past masters who will be riding on Sunday 11th.

THE CLASSIC RACER MAGAZINE STAGE

At This year’s Festival the VMCC is proud to present awesome rock classics cover band Chaser as our event “house band” who will appearing on both Friday & Saturday. Chaser’s roots were laid down some 10 years ago as a five piece called The Collective. Their reputation grew and grew and were soon playing a good spread of gigs. However 6 years ago a personnel and name change transformed the band into a 6 piece and Chaser was formed. The new line up added new dynamics to the band and now Chaser are one of Derby’s busiest cover bands and have performed at prestigious venues such as the Derby Assembly Rooms. The mix of music is designed to get you on your feet to songs you know and love. Great female tonal range and gritty male lead coupled with solid musicianship means there’s something there for everybody. The quality of their sound and performance has meant they have enjoyed many re-bookings. Chaser’s high energy performance will ensure a great night for you and your party. AUTO JUMBLE/TRADE STANDS/AVE OF CLUBS - Sat 10th & Sunday 11th July 2010 9.00am - Event Close
There will be an Auto jumble & trade area held on both days of the 2010 event which will again be situated in the race paddock. The Taverners section of the VMCC will again be organising a pre-65 Trial which will be taking place on Sat 10th July 2010 in the wooded area adjacent to Gerrards bend.

The VMCC Sprint Section’s dedicated team of volunteers and their members will once again put on a Display of Alcohol Burning, Tyre Smoking and Ear Shattering action on the Mallory Start & Finish straight. They will have two sessions during the Sunday of 11th July.

PAST MASTERS TRACK EXTRAVAGANZA, FOUR DECADES OF WORLD CHAMPIONS! - Sunday 1.25pm - 2.30pm
An incredible line up of Past Masters and machines take to the track in a spine tingling display of sites and sounds. Including Multiple GP World Champion Freddie Spencer & Multiple World Champions Jim Redman MBE & Carl Fogarty MBE. Also appearing will be TT Winner Nick Jefferies on the late David Jefferies Suzuki GSXR100 in a tribute to his family’s TT superstar. Back again for 2010 is the hugely popular Honda 250/4s feature showcasing the sites & sounds! No less than 18 of these machines on track lead by Tommy Robb & Malc Wheeler. New to this year’s “Past Masters” will be a special feature showcasing machines from the famous Brookland’s circuit. Provided courtesy of the Brookland’s museum volunteer team nearly 20 machines featured will include record holders such as the Brough Superior “Works Scrapper”. During Saturday & Sunday come and see some of the incredible machines (& mingle with their star riders) such as Freddie Spencer’s, works Honda 500 GP bike plus the works machines supplied by The National Motorcycle Museum all displayed in the Past Masters section of the static display area within the race paddock.

Catering - Lots of great catering facilities are valuable at the event included The famous Paddock Cafe as well as all the catering units which offer a wide variety of fare from baked potatoes to homemade curry! Starter Service - Will be available on both Saturday & Sunday in the assembly areas for the “reluctant machines” courtesy of Hawksley Engineering Ltd.
Consumables & Spares - Will be available all weekend from the “Carrot Cycles” trade stand that will be located in the race paddock. As well as Lubricants, Cables, Chains, Batteries, Fuel Fittings & Ignition Parts they also bring along a good range of tools & equipment including a lathe to keep you out on track! Track Session event photographer - “Captured in Digital” are Mallory Parks new official track photographers & will be filming each entrant in every track session. Your souvenir photograph will be available to purchase at the event from their office located in the race paddock overlooking the start/finish straight. The CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association) - are pleased to be back again this year, providing a helmet/gear park and programme sales. On Sunday morning we’ll start the day with a short time of reflection and prayer for all aspects of the day.
